You don’t need a mobile app, mobile websites can be awesome

Mobile apps are all the rage and I can’t yet see a time when that enthusiasm for them will die out. But is it being driven by the wants and needs of customers or by marketing folk and business owners.

I think it’s the latter and it means companies and brands assume they must have an app for their thing. They absolutely must have an app for their restaurant so you can see the menu, their business isn’t complete without an app for their web software or they will miss out on sales if they don’t have an app for their car dealership.

Apple launches CarPlay for iOS7 and opens up a fresh battlefield with Google Android in the race to take over your car. Ferrari, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz are just some of the manufacturers signed up to use the system. For now its just music and navigation but we’ve already seen prototypes with with more from the likes of Land Rover, as far back as 2008.
